A pretentious youth with a lust for antiques, books, art, writing, music and nipple piercings.

Intentionally unreliable narrator.

I remember standing by the stage in Salt Lake City and saying something like, “when are these bloodsuckers gonna come out an’ play?” And then an almighty burst of light and the stage exploded with fireworks and my eardrums were throbbing, as if to say, “this is it”. It was something stupendous. The man next to me taps me on the shoulder and says, “you should be trippin’ man” or some other junkie phrase. I didn’t know what to think, it was the sixties to be sure, but this was no prog-rock, this was the birth of something raw and fiery, an untamed monster in the trunk of a mustang.

The man on my other shoulder was my good friend and colleague, “Jimmy, like the guitarist from Led Zep’”. At the time I hadn’t known of the band and wondered if he had a problem in the head…I still don’t know for sure. So Jimmy turns to me and said “we should stick these guys in our comic”, though he didn’t say it like that, but I have to interpret it for you. Jimmy had a speech problem caused by a large beard and missing teeth and so no one ever knew exactly what he meant. Also while I’m on the describing track, Jimi was a thin as a rattlesnake and as inked as any tattoo artist on the west coast. I myself was also wearing the homeless bone dress of junkie attire, the height of fashion.

So he says something about “our comic”, “Yes!” I cry in a moment of brilliance, for I was having a brilliant moment you see. I shout at him over the ruckus in my eardrums, “These guys are perfect for “our comic” Jimmy”. We decided to leave then and there, ready to start planning, myself with the old typewriter and Jim with a set of inks and pens, for drawing and such like.  The comic at that stage was called “The crazy green house”, a reference to a medicinal marijuana plantation we accidentally chanced upon, half blind from chronic glaucoma.
